Fingernails off!

my piano teacher would give us the month of august off from lessons so we didnt get burnt out. (and I think so she could have her crazy yearly vacation) so every year first thing she would write in my lesson book "FINGERNAILS OFF!" making me cut my nails so they didnt go clicky clack on the keys.

years later no piano lessons...perhaps my neatly trimmed fingernails could finally grow out. Or could they. not if my car has anything to do with it.

end of last week nearly lost a big tumb nail to my trunk when it decided to slip out of my hands while closing.

today one pointer nail down. after breaking it while trying to get out the socket to fix my other windshield.

now: car fixed. nails cut.

make a record, like a record record record?

everyone has a movie (or two) that without a doubt will always put a smile on their face no matter how bad of a day precedes the viewing. for me "That thing you do"

without a doubt with every viewing I laugh, I cry ok so really I laugh and I laugh some more, and I want to watch it again.

how could you not.

"we should go over to your place and talk" "if we go to my place I'm going to make out with you" "ok"

"that's too fast this isn't a polka this rock and roll"

"Where was I? Oh yeah, playing songs on my guitar."

"a man in a really nice camper wants to put our song on the radio"

perhaps the greatest purchase I ever made

why I dont like to do laundry

when I tell people that I haven't done laundry for 3 weeks they get a little disturbed. when I explain how I have to carry my clothes out in the cold past several building to make it to the laundry room in the other building, they seem to be a little less disgusted with me.

but today I was reminded why I really try to prolong the time between trips to the laundry room.

other people.

thank you stranger lady who took our clothing out of the dryer for us when it was done because we were literally 2 minutes late getting there.

thank you for taking our our clothes which were clearly wet, and putting your clothes into the dryer before we got there so we couldn't restart the dryer.

thank you for not only touching my clothes with your stranger hands but for dropping my clean underwear on the ground.

thank you for reminding me why nick face and I always hate each other by the time we are done with laundry because this time we were united in our hatred of you.

thank you for letting me hang up all of dripping wet clothes because you had clothes in all 5 dryers.

and thank you for forcing me do what I like even less....ironing because all of my school clothes are damp and wrinkled.

tears for mobiles

my kids made the super cool mobiles. and i spent an hour hanging them from the ceiling. and they were beautiful. and the kids were excited about physics.

and then I got the e-mail, sent to my department head, because apparently not only do people want to ruin my fun, but in doing so they dont want to take the time to figure out who I am.

Dawn

I don’t know who teaches in room 201 , but there are decorations hanging from the ceiling. Our insurance company prohibits us from hanging things from the ceiling tiles or light fixtures. Would you inform the teacher the decorations have to come down?

Thanks

Steve

grrr what kind of insurance policy doesnt allow you to hang things from the ceiling. AND our math department has stuff hanging from the ceiling.

so here is my memorial to my mobiles.

happy valentine's day

since nick face apparently hates valentines day I have had to be valentinee for the both of us. its been red and pink attire week this week, and planned my valentines day surprises as the week as gone on.

I understand the dislike some people have for the "hallmark-ization" of valentine's day but I have no hatred for telling the people you love them that you do, and taking some time to make them feel special. my family has long since not bought cards for valentine's day and instead taken the time to hand make something special.

my valentine's this year....various animals made from hearts with corny sayings using puns on the animal. (I was going to take a pic of all fo them, but I sealed the envelope before I remembered)

and my valentine's day...valentine's surprise breakfast for the nickface. strawberry heart shaped pancakes, sausage, eggs and orange juice. a good thing that nick was already up when I got up to make food...since our wonderful smoke alarm went off in the process. again was going to take a pic, but our food was fully devoured before I remembered

we then went to see confessions of a shopaholic, and then lunched with honey chipotle chicken crispers, a love of ours.

this evening I made heart shaped strawberry pies. these I did manage to take a pic of.

so dont hate on valentine's day. make the most of this holiday, don't buy into the commercialism if you dont want. but take sometime to give a hug so someone you know or love.

Little Bear plays guitar

for valentine's day my mommy sent me a cute little stuffed bear. being all creative we named it Little Bear. not to be confused with nick's baby bear which he has had since he was baby nick.

and then we played some rock band (4 hours of rockband seemed the logical thing to do since our show was one we had already seen)

and little bear helped. she did the solos.

some days the world just wins

this was going to be a post about how my oatmeal said I could either add hot water and stir or add water and heat in the microwave. since I wasnt going near the microwave and was going near the hot water source on the coffee pot I thought sure I'll try the hot water this time.

no. note: hot water is not a substitute for microwave time.

this should have been a sign that the world had it in for me today. and then the day unfolded.

couldnt get my speaker to work when watching a movie in class. tried plugging into projector and watched movie that way. turns out my computer was louder as I found out AFTER we were done watching.

leave at 2:40 with some errands to run. go to grocery store. ponder cereal choice. decide to go with the crispix since its on sale rather than the honey nut cheerios that i really wanted. get to check out line what is in my basket. rice krispies.

go to michaels to get dowel rods. none of the size I need. far be it for them to restock items I clear them out of the week before.

head to walmart across the street. find rods. millions of all other sizes. none of the size I need.

go to target. want to get a birthday present winter hat. not a single one in all the store. I live in freakin chicago. its february. we dont need swimsuits we need cold weather attire.

find present, need to grab some milk. what kind of milk do they not have. 1%. of course.

at least I got my parking space. maybe there is a little hope for me.

it's been awhile

since its been a week?? since I last posted and I'm finally keeping my eyes open...too bad this couldn't happen when I was trying to get work done I thought that I would post. though nothing exciting has happened so its going ot be one of those life posts.

life is boring. though it is nice to walk through puddles instead of snow piles when going to and from my car and I definitely am not going to complain about 60 degree weather in February...though I am hoping for that rain that is predicted. my car is in desperate need of a good old nature's car wash.

school is school. my seniors and I are having a matching of wits...they think its ok to talk all through class and not come prepared. I actually expect them to be respectful of me and their fellow students and actually do the little work that I assign. but we're woking on coming to terms we can both agree on. aka I just want to survive the year.

though whether or not I have a job next year is up in the air. all depends on how many girls we have register. fortunatly my paperwork for my IL teaching certificate is finally all gathered and ready to submit....now to just call and find out if I can drop it in the mail or if I need to go the 2 hours out of my way to swing by the office. my saving hope for my job...there are 2 brand new sciene teachers...and one of them is a bio teacher...and we will have literally 1 bio class next year, I however teach chem and physics and we will have TONS of those classes to teach.

the yam yops are doing phenomenial on their world tour. we now have over a million fans. well over a milion fans thanks to our determination to play above our comfortable skill level on friday night.

my family has finally embraced the technology of texting. though emily is the only one who texts me so I can clearly see how I have done without it all these years. I did have to teach my phone some key phrases. piccolo, nickface and claires. since these are the individuals around whom my social life revolves and none of them have normal names.

since what is a blog post without pictures but who wants to take pictures of a boring life. I leave you with this one from chirstmas. I call it "when santas collide"

cutest lab ever.

who wouldnt want to do this physics lab.

hello technology, nice to meet you

computer made it safely back to my arms this morning, AND it has gotten over its fear of other computers...so i can sit at my desk and print away! --- as long as I only want to print one page at a time, since my printer still tries to print everything on one page aka print 2 pages, one comes out, with two pages worth of text on top of each other.

AND I came back to my room after a faculty meeting this afternoon to find a text from my little sister "can you text too?" we finally have entered this phase of our mobile phone lives thanks to emily's christmas request. so yes. I can text too.

we went old school today

my school computer is at the computer doctor. this is throwing my whole school day off. I use my computer CONSTANTLY...taking attendance, doing notes, and since my room severely lacks a working chalkboard and i can't afford my dream board, for solving practice problems thanks to the computer's tablet function.

my computer has needed to go to the computer doctor since september. it doesnt play well with others and thus wont let me print, log onto the shared network drives, or back up my stuff in the network. I finally decided i'd had enough and told the tech assistant last tuesday I was bringing it today. she told the head techie, who questioned the sainity of someone who plans to bring her computer in a week in advance.

so in my computerless state we all learned how to use chalkboards and chalk today. I had to teach school old school style. now my hands are all dry because of it. stupid chalk.
