let me set the scenario...boy has decided that he doesnt need to study for his algebra final because he "just needs to get a 69 to pass the class" dad says well thats not good you need to at least try.
boy says "whatev"
dad says "what are you too lazy to say full words now?"
boy says "no prob"
apparently they have hacked into my life.

sophomore formal recap
finished my second required chaperoning event tonight by chaperoning the sophomore class formal. here are the highlights:
- thinking we caught some kid doing bad things in the bathroom...send the security after them....turns out the kid is smelly and his girl friend had his deodorant in her bag and he was just embarrassed.
- beaking up hard core full on make out session happening right beside a group of 3 teachers. of course another boy had to point it out to us before we stopped it because we were too into dancing to "shout"
- the group of 20 or so abandoned boys who were all sitting together after their dates had ditched them to dance with their friends. the best part, even during slow songs there were still about 5 of them sitting alone. if you're not going to dance with your date dont make him come
- witnessing a massive fight between a girl and her date because he refused to dance with her during a slow song
- being a "bouncer" attempting to keep jumping high school boys who were taller than me from jumping into the speakers and causing them to fall over
- planing TEACHER PROM. because really we chaperon dances because we wish we still had them. and teacher prom would be so much more fun.

march madness...amy style
so I filled out my first NCAA bracket today. I literally watched from start to finish perhaps a total of 10 college basketball games in my life and most of these were either UMKC games because my dad had free tickets or ND womens games because they were giving free stuff and I had a friend who played.
so in my highly scientific method I began with enney-meeny-miney-mo, but soon I had figured out who would win based on where I started, so then I moved on to bubble gum bubble gum in a dish. and how many pieces do I wish....well now that depends on how they were ranked from the beginning.
I ended up with an MU-KU show down in the final four. and decided against it. when that happens I'll be kicking myself.

sometimes the truth hurts, sometimes the baby cat causes hurt part two
as has often been said, the truth will always find a way to surface. and here the truth has. straight from the babycat owner's mouth. (well from her twitter feed which is practically the same thing)
clairemv:I just watched Rocious knock down 3 Polaroid pictures and then look at me like-what? This is what I get for blogging nice things about her.

pi(e) day!
whoo hoo for pi(e) day. it takes me back to life at ND and the tuesday night pi(e) club when we would gather at the castle around 10 and make pi(e) from scratch (crust and all) to enjoy before chem lab the next day.
now all I do is make pi(e) by myself to feed to nick and I and it is not quite as exciting. though it is pi(e) so it is inherently exciting. here is my yummy pi(e) to make emily salivate it is a raspberry and cherry pi(e) with a graham cracker crust and a oatmeal crumb topping.
AND at the museum of science and industry they had a pi(e) drop.
let them eat pi(e)!

you got your sunny environments with sunflowers and merry-golds
kid presentations today. often a painful experience. sometimes hilarious. Definitely ended on a hilarious note today.
promised these kids I'd delete this off my computer. failed to mention I'd delete it AFTER I showed to to all my friends in the building, copied it to my flash drive and posted it on my blog.
at least I was responsible enough to blank out their last names before posting online.
and now for you viewing enjoyment I give you PLANT MAN STEVE!

sometimes the truth hurts, sometimes the baby cat causes hurt
where lies and corruption exists in the world someone has to step up and tell the truth. Lately one individual has spoken out against society's beliefs. she has spoken out about what she believes to be an unjust and undeserved critique of her feline friend. well sometimes society knows best.
when the world tells you that your kitten is a ferocious bitey cat, and no one says that she is a snuggle cat perhaps it is time to listen.
would you wake to a snuggly cat staring at you, and tasting you to see if she would like a bite. I think not.
would a snuggle cat sit in a high chair and projectile vomit at you repeatedly, I think not.
would a snuggle cat nip at your toes just because you haven't offered her your fingers to bite off, I think not.
would a snuggle cat inflict wounds like the one pictured below. I think not.
sometimes we have to stand up for what we believe in, but sometimes what we believe in is wrong.

tw-what?
so I finally broke down and got a twitter account aebecks since apparently I got bored on saturday. or perhaps I just like to receive text messages, since most of my friends are not text happy and I go for days without feeling popular.
I have now posted 12 random updates about my life. follow 8 people, though only 1 of them follows me and am being followed by 3 other random strangers....while currently deciding if I want to block random people from being about to follow me and tweet at me.
my biggest regret...that I didnt do it before feb 7, so I could be abecks rather than aebecks which is just so much more difficult to remember

some of us rock the side pony. some of us rock the headband.
we've all see how I like to rock the side pony. especially while playing rock band. it helps me channel my character. i may even perhaps refer to things that side pony amy would totally enjoy. and I do actually rock the side pony in real life....it allows me to keep the hair contained while not looking bald.
and now nick has developed a style all his own. one that he partakes in while playing video games, but for a slightly different purpose then for why I rock the side pony. nick's new fav. the headband. the flowing locks are getting long, and long flowing locks can inhibit vision. poor vision + video game = death. where there is a problem we find a solution.

new favs+ old favs = all around good time
much needed night out last night with nickface and claires.
night started off with some new fabulous favs. Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors whom I now absolutely love. their roadie was impressed by the fact that i bought their CD before they started playing. what can I say. I do my pre-concert research and I know what I like.
of course I took the obligatory concert pics. perfect accessory for the blogity-blog.
which brings me to new fav number 2. the girl on the right. love her hair cut, love her outfit, and she plays the freakin' Mandolin. (as well as the tambourine and maracas)
I really wanted to go up to her after and say "perhaps this may be awkward, but I think you're adorable can we take a pic?" but I didnt. despite my having no problem with such behavior in the past at concerts. perhaps it was the overwelming adorableness.
add to the mix old fav numero 1. the valley kids. always a good time. even when one of them makes us miss three redlines.
and old fav deuce: dave barnes. aways a goofball, always a good time.
end result. all around good time.

my boyfriend is on google
truth be told we've all been bored and googled ourselves. There used to be a time when google-ing myself actually brought up hits about me...and not my counterparts with the same fabulous name. granted these hits weren't anything exciting...mostly MCSA regatta results, I've not done anything all that exciting in my life
now when I google myself the firsts are well boring, but then I soon learned that apparently there are two of me who are both photographers...one in NYC, one in Iowa (apparently I missed my calling), then there is the girl whose e-mails I would get while at Mizzou (bane of my existance), and eventually buried on page 4 a hit that is actually me. A link to S'Alex's photo gallery and my images of dibenzo pentecene.
but now when you google nick. well not when you google him persay but when you know to google "nvc reviews" hit number one www.nvcreviews.com is where he puts his hours of video gaming to use. and you can read all about his opinions, as well as the opinions of clares on books, (I apparently have no valuable opinons...physics textbooks anyone?) and learn the innerworkings of their brains.

KTD's
when you are a teacher and you ask your students to write something, you never know what you are going to get. especially when you ask a class of freshman to write you scientific research papers.
let's take the following quote from a paper on odd animal behaviors featuring the chosen animal of giraffe.
"Dominance is important in giraffe relationships. Male giraffes do a lot of necking."
now the paper goes on to explain that in giraffe terms necking means swinging big giraffe necks at each other to win dominance as described in this video. but i just wish the child knew what she had written.
